Description
This Disassembly Punch is a spring-powered pin punch, modified by Apex with a flat tip for direct, efficient force transfer. It is specifically engineered to simplify the removal of the Front Locking Block Pin on all variants of the FN 509, FN 510, and FN 545 pistols. For competition shooters and serious armorers who need reliable disassembly without marring components, this tool delivers consistent results with fewer strikes.
Real-world benefits:
- Direct pin engagement: The flat tip applies force squarely to the pin face, reducing the risk of slipping or damaging surrounding frame material.
- Controlled impact delivery: The spring mechanism delivers a repeatable, calibrated shockwave to the pin, freeing it with minimal effort compared to manual hammer-and-punch methods.
- Reduced hand fatigue: No need for repeated hard swings — the spring does the work, making it ideal for high-volume disassembly or maintenance sessions.
- Compatible with Apex Disassembly Fixtures: For best results, pair this punch with the appropriate Apex Disassembly Fixture for your FN pistol model. The fixture holds the frame securely and aligns the punch for consistent, straight-on strikes.
How to use (for best results):
- Wear safety glasses and remove all ammunition from the workspace.
- Follow factory recommendations to unload and field strip the pistol.
- Remove the Take Down Lever from the frame.
- Place the frame into the correct Apex Disassembly Fixture. Refer to the Apex video for fixture assembly and frame alignment instructions.
- Set the fixture on a solid surface — over a workbench leg or on a concrete floor works well.
- Once aligned, place the punch tip into the correct hole in the top of the fixture, lowering it until it contacts the Front Locking Block Pin.
- With one hand, hold the anvil rings firmly to steady the drive pin and anvil in place.
- With the other hand, grasp the hammer rings and stretch the spring parallel to the drive pin — approximately 2”.
- Release the hammer. The spring pulls the hammer down onto the anvil, transferring energy to the pin and freeing it.
- Check pin and fixture alignment after each strike. Multiple impacts may be required to drive the pin free.
